Inclusive recruitment for the arts and cultural sectors

Sadler’s Wells Recruitment

Inclusive recruitment within the arts and cultural sectors. Valued is doing things differently

Inclusive Recruitment in the Arts and Cultural Sector, Done Differently

At Valued, we partner with arts and cultural organisations to recruit inclusively, thoughtfully and with impact. This project with Sadler’s Wells exemplifies how values-led recruitment can support growth, diversity and long-term success.

The Organisation

Sadler’s Wells is a world-renowned dance organisation with an exceptional global reputation. Its ambitious year-round programme celebrates dance in all its forms, attracting more than half a million visitors annually to its London theatres, alongside extensive national and international touring productions.

In 2025, Sadler’s Wells opened Sadler’s Wells East in Stratford. This landmark new venue is a centre for creativity, performance, learning and innovation, located at the heart of the emerging cultural district in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The Project

During this pivotal period of expansion, Valued supported Sadler’s Wells’ Development (Fundraising) team with a series of strategic recruitment projects. As the team entered a phase of growth, there was a clear need to attract and retain fundraising talent in a way that was proactive, inclusive and forward-thinking.

Sadler’s Wells chose to work with Valued because of our shared commitment to equity, transparency and doing recruitment differently within the arts and cultural sector.

Our Approach

Working in close partnership with the Development and People teams, we designed an engaging and inclusive recruitment offering for prospective candidates. Our support included:

  • Salary benchmarking and market insights

  • Advice on benefits, policies and total reward

  • Guidance on inclusive recruitment practices and interview techniques

Alongside this, we collaborated with hiring managers to map the fundraising landscape and proactively engage talented individuals aligned with the organisation’s future direction, particularly as Sadler’s Wells East prepared to launch.

This consultative and targeted approach allowed us to connect with exceptional professionals from across the arts and cultural sector, many of whom brought fresh perspectives and lived experience to the process.

The Outcome

The result was a successful, values-led recruitment project delivered in partnership with a progressive and innovative team. Together, we supported Sadler’s Wells to build a stronger, more inclusive fundraising function at a defining moment in their organisational journey.

Inclusive recruitment for the arts and cultural sector. Valued. Done differently.
